Wright for the first time in 1997was like a refreshing drink on hot, humid day. I was a Presbyterian minister (PCA) and in the providence of God he played a role in leading home to the Church of Rome (I know he is no apologist for Rome) because he helped me see that the Gospel is not "Justification by Faith Alone" but "Jesus is Lord". However, that being said, I have not been impressed in the recent years on his views and beliefs on a variety of matters. His handling of the problem of evil comes across as somewhat naive and his position of women bishops equally so. He basically says that this is no issue on which the Church should divide (to some extent I agree with him; if you allow women priests then logically why not women bishops; the real issue being that the divide should have taken place well over a decade ago) yet, if one is a "traditionalist" who believes that these are fundamental issues of Church structure established by Christ and His Apostles, failure to divide would be sin, to some extent I suppose!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2240056754230052567.post-81014777503300969442008-07-13T20:09:00.000+01:002008-07-13T20:09:00.000+01:00He does not think that the consecration of women as bishops "is something over which we should divide the church". "We" are not dividing the Church; it is the consecration of women that will do that. I actually think you were right on this particular issue. But can't you see that you yourself have been a main proponent of this 'I want 100% philosophy' which is so destructive of Anglicanism - and indeed of any religious system, Christian or non-Christian? <BR/><BR/>Nor do I think that as a bishop, with a pastoral concern for all your flock, you have shown any real concern for your homosexual brothers and sisters.<BR/><BR/>Consistency is the principle. Within Anglicanism, paradoxically, consistency may - and indeed does - entail defence and advocacy of pluralism.johnnoreply@blogger.com
